How to read this chart. Each bubble is a business competing for attention in this market. Bigger bubbles mean more overall search visibility. The horizontal axis shows how many keywords a business ranks for, and the vertical axis shows their average ranking position (lower numbers are better). Businesses in the upper-right are ranking for a lot of keywords in strong positions. Businesses in the lower-left are barely showing up.

Overall search visibility score for each competitor. Higher scores mean more keywords ranking in stronger positions. Updated monthly.

The Treasure Valley’s population boom over the past decade didn’t just create demand for new construction. It created a wave of homeowners buying existing homes and remodeling them. Many of those buyers relocated from markets where they already expect to find their contractor online. They search for “kitchen remodel Meridian” or “bathroom remodel Eagle” before they ask a neighbor for a recommendation. The remodelers showing up in those searches are capturing business that referral networks never touch.
The Boise metro’s remodeling demand spreads across distinct communities with different housing stock and different project needs. Eagle and the Boise bench draw kitchen and bath remodels in higher-end homes. Meridian and Kuna see more production-era homes needing updates. Nampa and Caldwell have older housing that drives renovation and addition work. Each of these areas generates its own search patterns across project types, and most remodelers aren’t targeting them specifically.
With over 1,000 keywords tracked across this market, the search volume covers everything from basement finishing to master bedroom additions, spread across more than a dozen communities. Over 40% of the #1 positions for those keywords are held by directory sites. That means real demand, real searches, and very little competition from actual remodeling businesses.
Boise’s remodeling market has one competitor that’s clearly ahead of the field. The top-ranked remodeler holds nearly 8% of total visibility and ranks for over 700 keywords, appearing in the keyword leaders for communities across the entire metro. That kind of broad coverage takes sustained investment, and it’s working. But even that position has limits. An average ranking position around 10 means many of those keywords are on the edge of page one, where small improvements in content quality or backlinks could shift the rankings.
The rest of the field is tightly packed. Second place holds under 4%, and the gap from third to twelfth is less than three percentage points. Several competitors rank for hundreds of keywords but in weak positions, averaging page two or worse. That pattern, broad but shallow coverage, means these remodelers have websites with some content but haven’t refined it. The directory sites filling in the remaining 40% of #1 positions confirm it: there’s more demand than any current competitor is capturing.
The remodeler who narrows the gap with the market leader, or passes them, will be the one who builds deep content across both project types and communities rather than spreading thin. Our guide to remodeler SEO strategy walks through exactly how to structure that kind of campaign for compounding results.
These are real competitive markets where Floodlight has a client. The big orange bubble that's clearly winning is ours. Results are typical.
